FMA Washington Report: April 13, 2020
National Commission Releases Final Report: Inspired to Serve
The National Commission on Military, National, and Public Service published its final report on March 25, 2020. The commission, created by the Fiscal Year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act, was created to consider methods to increase participation in military, national, and public service, among other purposes. It conducted more than two and a half years of research and public hearings. FMA helped contribute to its efforts, sharing insights in meetings and other communications with commissioners and staff.

The final report is called “Inspired to Serve” and is available at this link: https://inspire2serve.gov/reports/final-report

Following its publication, FMA joined the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA), the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE), the Partnership for Public Service, and the Senior Executives Association (SEA), along with several other organizations, in an open letter to President Trump and Members of Congress welcoming the final report. In the letter, the organizations encouraged decision makers to engage with Commission members and to consider the report findings as they debate administrative actions and legislative improvements to the civil service.
