  • AGENCIES STILL STRUGGLE WITH PHASED RETIREMENT

    Congress passed legislation in 2012 allowing for eligible federal employees to work twenty hours a week through a phased retirement. While it was seen to help prepare federal employees for retirement life, federal departments and agencies would also be able to retain employees with institutional knowledge who could train the next generation. However, federal agencies and departments have been slow to adopt phased retirement and have struggled to implement the policy so that it would not negatively impact missions and goals.
