  • Amid talks of pension contribution hikes, lawmakers speak out for feds

    Despite the fact that the partial federal government shutdown showed a demonstrated need for the federal workforce, Members of Congress are apparently considering a fiscal year 2014 budget deal calling for cuts to federal pay and House members introduced legislation calling for greater employee contributions to retirement benefits. There are, however, champions within the House and Senate that spoke up in favor of federal workers and their contributions.

    Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-MD) wrote members of the Budget Conference Committee, expressing the shame of underappreciating the hard work of the men and women who serve in the federal government. Representative Frank Wolf )R-VA) also wrote to the Budget Committee, mirroring the Senator's sentiments, adding that fiscal sacrifices must be shared, not solely burdened by the federal workforce.
