  • FMA ENDORSES BIPARTISAN LEGISLATION INTRODUCED ON SERVICE CREDIT BUY BACK - March 27, 2018
  • We are pleased to inform all of our members that Congressman Derek Kilmer (D-WA) has introduced a bill that would allow workers in the Federal Employees Retirement
System (FERS) to make deposits for non-deduction federal service performed. More specifically, current employees to would be able to buy back years served as temporary employees to credit toward their retirement.

The bill, H.R. 5389, was introduced on March 22 and immediately cosponsored by Congressman Walter Jones (R-NC) and Congressman Salud Carbajal (D-CA) making it bipartisan in nature. FMA has already endorsed the legislation and to read our formal letter of endorsement, please click here.

This issue is a 2018 FMA Issue Brief and we would like to extend our deepest thanks to Mr. Kilmer, Mr. Jones and Mr. Carbajal for their support. We look forward to working with them and any additional potential cosponsors to help push this legislation into becoming law.
