Legislative Outreach Agency Outreach | FMA Washington Report: July 12, 2021 Kiran Ahuja Confirmed As OPM Director The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) exists as the federal governments’ Human Resources Agency, and as such has a critical mission. Unfortunately, OPM has had eight directors, or acting directors, in the past five years, and frequent turnover at the top is far from beneficial. FMA was pleased to support the nomination of Kiran Ahuja for OPM Director, and endorsed her nomination as soon as she was put forward. Craig Carter, FMA National President, had the following to say in a press release supporting Director Ahuja’s confirmation. “FMA congratulates Kiran Ahuja on her confirmation as Director of OPM. Her previous experience and service – including several years as chief of staff at OPM – ensure she has the background and qualifications to effectively lead this agency at this critical time. As I said in February when she was nominated, the career staff members at OPM have worked admirably under challenging circumstances, including not having a Senate-confirmed director for more than a year and instability at the head of the agency for more than five years. Ms. Ahuja can establish a clearly marked direction on behalf of the agency and managers across the government. She is a proven, capable, seasoned leader who will provide the guidance and management necessary for an effective and efficient federal workforce, and we look forward to working with her and her team at OPM.” FMA recognizes the vital role that OPM plays in the smooth functioning of the federal government, as well as the critical importance of consistent leadership at the top of the agency. FMA wishes Director Ahuja a successful tenure as the director of OPM. |
