In This Issue FMA Working For You! Get Involved At These Events! What's Affecting Feds? | FMA Washington Report: February 14, 2022 HSGAC Happenings On February 9, 2022, the Senate Budget Committee voted 15-6, and the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC) voted 8-6 to send the nomination of Shalanda Young for Office of Management and Budget Director to the Senate floor for a final confirmation vote. FMA attended the HSGAC hearing preceding this vote. Young has served as the Acting Director of OMB since March of 2021, when she was confirmed by a Senate vote of 63-37. She is expected to receive a similar level of support for official confirmation as Director of OMB. The hearing on Young’s nomination was one of three HSGAC hearings FMA attended on the week of February 7, 2022. FMA representatives also attended hearings on the Chance to Compete Act (S. 3423), which would require federal agencies to focus hiring practices on the skills job seekers possess rather than whether and where they earned a college degree, and on the Honoring Civil Servants Killed in the Line of Duty Act (S. 3487), which would significantly boost death benefit gratuities and funeral allowances for federal employees who die in the line of duty. Both bills were reported favorably. |
