In This Issue | FMA Washington Report: August 9, 2021 Frank Kendall Confirmed as Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall was confirmed as Secretary of the Air Force by the Senate and sworn in on July 28, 2021. In his capacity as Secretary of the Air Force, Kendall will serve as the top civilian overseeing the Air Force and Space Force. Prior to his current role, Kendall served as Pentagon Acquisitions Chief, a human rights attorney, and as a defense industry executive. FMA anticipates developing a strong working relationship with the Secretary and his staff in order to best represent those civilian federal managers working for the Air Force and Space Force. Secretary Kendall’s nomination had been held up by a delaying effort by Sens. Gary Peters (D-MI) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), in exchange for a commitment to expand Selfridge Air National Guard Base, located in Michigan, to serve as a military aviation hub in the Midwest. This commitment included 128 million dollars of funding to expand military aviation facilities in Michigan. |
