  • OMB: Shutdown cost $2 billion in lost pay

    By furloughing forty percent of the federal workforce for sixteen days, the partial government shutdown cost about $2 billion in personnel costs, according to the Office of Management and Budget. This figure derives from providing furloughed workers with back pay and lost productivity. OMB Director Sylvia Mathews Burwell added the federal government will also owe interest on payments that cold not be made during the sixteen days in October.
