  Kicking off the Federal Managers Association (FMA)'s 75th annual National Convention and Management Training Seminar, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) of the House of Representatives showed tremendous support for the federal managers and the federal community with her feverish disapproval of the sequester and the situation it has placed the federal workforce. Federal agencies and departments face unprecedented cuts, $85 billion of which they will see in the first year, due to inability of the House and Senate to reach a compromise on federal spending.

  "There are no precedents to guide you as you have to manage your way during a period when you have to ditch long-term planning and even tear up yesterday’s short-term plans or reassure and motivate employees with no assurance yourself of what the next day will bring," Norton said. "You can’t promise them much." Delegate Norton has promised that for every day federal employees face furloughs, she will donate a portion of her salary to the Federal Employee Emergency Assistance Fund (FEEA). "Your pay and the pay of my own employees is subject to the political whims of members of Congress who enjoy constitutional protection against the cuts they’re needlessly visiting on federal employees, managers, the public, and the economy. Donating a day’s pay for whatever number of furlough days is no sacrifice to me," she stated.
