  • FMA MEMBERS WEIGH IN ON EVE OF BUDGET RELEASE - March 15, 2017
  • Anxiety, fear, uncertainty mark federal employees awaiting Trump’s budget

By Joe Davidson, The Washington Post

Two members of the Federal Managers Association (FMA) attending the 79th national convention and management training seminar were quoted in Joe Davidson's Federal Diary published in The Washington Post prior to the release of President Trump's first budget request. FMA President Emeritus Patricia Niehaus discussed hardships related to layoffs and the hiring freeze, noting, "everybody at this conference has at least one employee who lives paycheck-to-paycheck." FMA's Valerie Scott, a manager at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, emphasized commitment to mission when discussing the current hiring freeze: “It hurts morale, because the workers want to do a good job. They want to be successful at the job. They want to fix ships. … They want the country defended.”

President Trump's budget request is expected tomorrow, March 16.
