- PRESIDENT TRUMP UNVEILS BUDGET BLUEPRINT - March 16, 2017
President Trump offered his first budget today, March 16, 2017, shedding light on his administration's priorities for fiscal year 2018. As expected, the $1.1 trillion budget proposes $54 billion in increases at the Department of Defense, and makes significant cuts in non-defense spending, including the Environmental Protection Agency, Department of State, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Housing and Urban Development. FMA will closely examine the document, available here.
Charles S. Clark, of Government Executive, noted comments related to management made by the Office of Management and Budget on release of the document today:
“Past management improvement initiatives resulted in the creation of hundreds of guidance documents aimed at improving government management by adding more requirements to information technology, human capital, acquisition, financial management, and real property,” it said. “These governmentwide policies often tie agencies’ hands and keep managers from making common sense decisions. As a result, costs often increase without corresponding benefits,” it said. “The administration will roll back low-value activities and let managers manage, while holding them accountable for finding ways to reduce the cost of agency operations.”
