  • Military’s Paid Maternity Leave Now 12 Weeks; Feds Still At Zero

    Secretary of Defense Ash Carter recently announced that female service members will receive twelve weeks of paid maternity leave. Carter is using convalescent leave to provide the benefit, and does not need legislative approval to act. In contrast federal employees continue to receive no paid maternity leave. Legislation has been introduced, and President Obama supported this effort in the budget request he released earlier this month. FMA strongly supports the commonsense effort to provide much-needed parental leave to federal employees.
