Cobert Ineligible to Be Acting OPM Director, IG Says

Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Acting Director Beth Cobert is not eligible for the post, according to a letter penned by OPM Inspector General Patrick McFarland. McFarland, who is retiring effective February 19, cited the 1998 Federal Vacancies Reform Act as the basis for this determination. Cobert has been nominated as the next director. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Ron Johnson (R-WI) said this development does not change his opinion of her qualifications and expects the Senate to consider her nomination subsequent to responding to congressional oversight questions from her hearing. FMA has stated Cobert has performed her duties well and supports her nomination as director.
