Budget projects ‘largest relative pay cut’ for feds

President Obama called for a 1.6 percent pay raise for federal employees in his Fiscal Year 2017 budget request. While this is 0.3 percent higher than what he requested last year, it is still well below the Employment Cost Index (ECI), which is supposed to govern federal raises. The budget proposal states there is a 9 percent gap between federal and private-sector pay. FMA urges a return to linking pay raises with the ECI.
