Top Republican: Fire More Feds and Shrink the Workforce, But Pay Higher Salaries

In remarks given at a Washington, DC, event yesterday, House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) pushed for significant changes to the federal workforce, including attrition and making it easier to terminate poor performing employees. He advocated for reducing the window the Merit System Protection Board appeals process and allowing inspectors general greater ability to target feds who retire or leave the workforce during an investigation. Chairman Chaffetz has been supportive of a pay raise for federal employees, as well as extending the probationary period.
