Obama demands agencies cut spending by 5 percent in 2017

Office of Management and Budget Director Shaun Donovan issued a memo to agency heads citing the need to reduce discretionary spending by five percent. Director Donovan called upon agency leadership to examine areas of fragmentation, overlap, and duplication as a means of cost savings. Additionally, leadership is asked to offset any mandatory spending increases with comparable cuts.
