- FMA STATEMENT ON RE-ELECTION OF DONALD TRUMP AS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES – November 6, 2024
Alexandria, VA – The Associated Press projects Donald J. Trump has been elected to serve as the 47th President of the United States, passing the threshold of 270 electoral votes overnight. Trump, the 45th President, will return to the White House for a second term, and will be sworn in on January 20, 2025. Republicans will assume majority control of the United States Senate for the 119th Congress, while control of the House of Representatives remains unknown at this time. Federal Managers Association (FMA) National President Craig Carter made the following statement in response to the November 5 elections:
“On behalf of the managers and supervisors currently serving our nation in the federal government, and whose interests are represented by the Federal Managers Association (FMA), we congratulate Donald J. Trump on his election to the White House and pledge to work with him and his administration throughout his upcoming term in office.
“Our mission at FMA is advocating excellence in public service. Those who enter the federal workforce often note a greater calling to serve their fellow Americans and their country. Managers on the frontlines of the noble agencies and departments that make up federal government are, and will continue to be, the primary leaders providing services to the American people.
“As we have for more than 110 years, FMA will work with President Trump and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle in the 119th Congress to push for investment in management and the people of the federal workforce, giving managers the tools they need to effectively operate, and securing policies to attract and retain the best and brightest to civil service.
“We do, however, hold grave concerns with some of President-elect Trump’s stated policies that will affect the federal workforce, notably highlighted by the proposed return of Schedule F, and we will advocate in the strongest terms possible against politicizing the civil service. Federal employees swear an oath to the U.S. Constitution and provide services to all Americans, regardless of political party. The federal government cannot function effectively without this nonpolitical civil service capable of preserving institutional memory and competence across administrations.
“For nearly 250 years our country has stood out for its ability to come together for the greater good. We at FMA are hopeful the nation will work to overcome the divisiveness that has plagued our nation in recent years, and we will do our part to maintain a civil service loyal to serving all Americans.”
