  • A special leave bank for disabled vets?

    The Federal Managers Association (FMA) has long supported providing first year federal employees who qualify with the Department of Veteran Affairs as disabled with a sick leave bank that guarantees they will has sufficient time to attend medically necessary appointments. Within the first year of federal employment, feds start with a zero sick leave balance, accruing four hours of leave each pay period, giving them 104 hours at the end of their first year. However, disabled vets who have frequent medical appointments, often in remote locations, can easily burn up their sick leave. FMA proposes creating a specific sick leave bank for these men and women so their combat related injuries can be treated properly without fear of lost time.
