FMA is leading the charge to urge Congress to do its job, fully fund the federal government, and avert another devastating and costly government shutdown. FMA National President Craig Carter sent a strong letter to every Member of Congress, and FMA joined fellow management, union and postal organizations in the Federal-Postal Coalition with a separate letter. Below is an update on the current situation regarding the potential lapse in funding.
Senate to advance short-term funding measure as shutdown deadline nears

The Senate is slated to begin consideration Tuesday of a short-term measure aimed at averting a government shutdown, though there is still no sign that their colleagues in the House will follow suit ahead of the Saturday deadline to fund federal agencies.
Absent Congressional action by the end of this week, federal agencies will begin to shutter on Oct. 1. Agencies would then furlough a significant portion of the more than 2 million federal workers, while the remainder will be forced to work without pay for the duration of the lapse in appropriations. Both furloughed and excepted employees will automatically get backpay once the government reopens.To read the full article, click here.
