- U.S. Marshals Service FMA Chapter 373 Provides Testimony to Senate Committee - June 8, 2021
- U.S. Marshals Service FMA Chapter 373 accepted an invitation by the Senate Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies, to provide outside witness testimony for Fiscal Year 2022 appropriations for the U.S. Marshals Service. Courtesy copies were also provided to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Committee to aid in its oversight function. In a 4-page letter with accompanying exhibits, Chapter President Dave Barnes and Chapter Vice President for Law Enforcement Operations Jason Wojdylo told the Subcommittee, "We cannot be more clear about our steadfast support for the Judiciary," in calling attention to a year's long staffing shortage in the Agency's 94 district offices that have reached dangerously low levels. They suggest Congress providing more resources, however, is not necessarily the answer. Instead, a case is made that the exponential growth of the Agency's headquarters, the testimony reveals, makes it "only a matter of time before the Agency is no longer able to safely and consistently carry out its primary mission of court security without risk of injury or worse to participants in the judicial process."
