- House Panel Approves Measure to Slash Some Pentagon Offices, Make Workforce ReformsBy Eric Katz, Government ExecutiveThe Fiscal 2019 National Defense Authorization Act would eliminate the Washington Headquarters Services office, which employs 2,300 civilian and military personnel and 1,700 contract workers. The WHS functions deemed essential would be transferred to the Office of the Secretary of Defense. About one-fourth of Defense’s workforce is employed by the 30 agencies that Rep.
